Best In-Laws Ever, Some Hawai’ian Food Porn, & Whole-Assing

Hey there, friends!

After a wonderful week in paradise and a crazy drive through torrential rain and vigorous lightning, I’ve returned home and have been reunited with my two sweet fluffy babies:  Willow and Jasper.  I missed them so much!  While my vacation was a life-changing one that I’ll cherish forever, it truly is good to be home.

While we were away, my in-laws were kind enough to come and stay at our apartment and take care of the animals for us and have a little vacation of their own.  While I was on my way to the Lihue (pronounced lih-hoo-ee)  airport, I received the following text from them:

Best.  In-laws.  Ever.  For realz.  I love them so much.  Not just because they do all this amazing stuff and buy me things I don’t want to spend my money on, but also because they’re super nice, laid-back, and caring.  They’re true-blue wonderful people.  I lucked out hardcore.  Love you guys!  ❤

Since my return,  I’ve crunched a few numbers:

  • Pounds Gained:  2.5  (Not bad if I do say so myself!)
  • Amount Overspent:  $30  (Also not bad!)
  • Total Times Sunburned: 1 (fuggin’ great!)
  • Total Freckles Gained:  899
  • Total Pictures Taken:  572
  • Total Good Pictures Taken:  277
  • Estimated Times I Heard the Word “Aloha”:  1,869
  • Estimated Times I Care to Hear the Word “Aloha” Again: 1.5  (subject to change over time)

As promised, here are a few final pictures of Kauai that I took on our last day:

Loco Moco! Or Moco Loco! I can’t remember, but it’s loco ono!

Since I returned last night, I have yet to unpack and place all my awesome Hawai’ian wares in their places of prominence around the house, but I’ll show you once I do!  I got some sweeeet stuff.

Now, my loyal followers are probably wondering:  “Last night?  Why did you get home last night?  Didn’t you fly out on Saturday?”  How astute of you, Watson!  I had to remain in The Valley for a couple of days of teacher training.  My school is constantly striving to improve, and my philosophy on life is whatever you do, do your f***ing best,  so I happily agreed to go to some teacher training to gain more knowledge on teaching (literacy in particular).  I’m so glad I went!  It got me excited for the upcoming school year and has provided me with all kinds of new tools and techniques that I can’t wait to try out.  Which also means I have a lot of preparing to do.  Time to get cracking!

A phrase I wish I could use with my students but don’t, for reasons that will become obvious in a moment, is one my husband has said to me on several occasions:  Don’t half-ass two things; whole-ass one.   I love this phrase, and strive to prioritize and whole-ass all my daily activities to help reach my long-term goals.

How about you?  What’s your take on whole-assing?  Do you strive to whole-ass everything you do?  What are your long-term goals?  Hit me up by Leaving a Reply below!  I’d love to chat with you.

Before I depart, I want to let you, my precious B-Loungers, know that come next week my blog post frequency will no longer be daily.  I know.  There, there. *hands you a tissue*  You’ll still get your fix of Claire-ity every Sunday, and depending on how my school schedule plays out one or two days during the work week minimum.  As always, it will be a mix of journal-like entries, creative writings, and anything I f***ing want, because it’s my blog and I’ll do whatever I damn well please, thank you very much.  But I can promise it will all be worthwhile.

Stay hydrated, my friends.  Thanks for reading.  ‘Till next time!

  1. I love the list of things your mummy in law bought you! 😁. I love all those things too but they are super expensive to keep on hand! My vacation motto is, “You go on vacation so you can love being home again” !

    1. Isn’t she great? I totally feel you on the expense! We were out of almost all of those things. Mom-in-law to the rescue! 😀 Love the vacay motto! There really is no place like home.
